Smart trucks will hit European roads
Early next month, the world’s first cross border initiative with smart trucks will take place in Europe. Six truck manufacturers (DAF Trucks, Daimler Trucks, Iveco, MAN Truck & Bus, Scania a Volvo Group) will bring platoons of semi automated trucks to public roads.
The trucks will be crossing borders from various European cities in order to reach their final destination of the Port of Rotterdam on 6 April. The action should foster European cooperation between truck manufacturers, member states, logistics service providers, etc. and harmonize legislation throughout Europe.
Truck platooning with two or three trucks in a convoy using connectivity technology and automated driving support systems can help make road transport safer, cleaner and more efficient in the future.
